Please, not another shopping checklist

You do not need another shopping checklist. You need a style resolution.

I know I have provided many guides, lists, and tips but the impact will not be felt if no real action is taken. Let me explain:

In the realm of fashion, there is a common belief that shopping lists and style guides are the keys to achieving a perfect personal style. However, let's pause: are these tools truly effective, or do they just cover up deeper style issues?

At the core of this debate is the idea that personal style goes beyond just following trends or rules. It's about expressing oneself, being authentic, and feeling confident. While shopping lists may temporarily help by suggesting essential items, and style guides offer instructions on outfit combinations, they overlook the real need: for individuals to define their unique style.

You’re not here to copy-paste someone else’s capsule wardrobe. You’re here to self-author your style from the inside out.

Start by asking yourself:

  • What story am I telling through my style?

  • What do I want people to know about me before I even speak?

  • What parts of me have I been hiding through my clothes?

This is your style resolution not a list, but a commitment to show up aligned, every damn day. Repeat: My style intention this season is to look like the woman who takes up space, trusts her voice, and walks into every room already chosen.

Style is the outward expression of your inner self-confidence and authenticity.”

Some Wise Person

True style goes beyond seasonal trends and generic advice. It involves self-awareness – understanding one's body, personality, and lifestyle – and creating a wardrobe that mirrors individuality. Instead of relying on external guidance, we should encourage exploring personal preferences and trying different styles to find what truly reflects our identity. One of my clients came to me overwhelmed. She had 20 Pinterest boards, a StitchFix subscription sending her an overflow of clothes, and still felt lost. She'd bought into a clean, curated aesthetic that looked good online. Once we cleared the noise and asked what she actually wanted to feel in her clothes, everything shifted. She didn't need more items. She needed permission to choose herself.

Remember, style is not just about what you wear, but about embracing who you are. Look beyond the surface, explore your uniqueness.

Style Without the Shopping Cart.

This isn't about adding. It's about editing. Before you even think about shopping, get clear on these:

1. What energy do I want to walk into rooms with? Confident? Approachable? Powerful? Creative? Your clothes should broadcast this before you say a word.

2. Where am I still playing it safe? That black blazer you reach for when you want to disappear? Those "appropriate" flats that make you feel invisible? Time to retire the costume.

3. What would I wear if I trusted myself completely? The bold print you love but never wear to work. The color that makes you glow. The silhouette that makes you stand taller.

4. How do I want to feel at the end of each day? Powerful? Comfortable in my skin? Like, I showed up as myself? Your wardrobe should support these feelings, not work against them.

This isn’t about minimalism for the aesthetic. This is about clearing space for your truth. Instead of generic essentials, create your personal style formula:

Your Power Color + Your Signature Silhouette + Your Statement Element = Your Style DNA.
